All eyes will no doubt be on the exciting new partnership between the Finnish mobile manufacturer and Windows Phone 7 developers Microsoft, but until then the Nokia N8 is flying the Symbian flag.

An anodised metal shell, 3.5-inch OLED capacitive screen and a dedicated graphics processor outlines its high end smartphone credentials, while Symbian^3 offers a new user experience with three homescreens to stock up full with your widgets.

The 12-megapixel camera with Xenon flash and Carl Zeiss optics is the star of the show delivering crisp images and array of modes to improve picture quality.

A HDMI port lets you output 720p HD video onto larger TV surroundings, and covering off the final multimedia base is the dedicated music widget that along with 16GB of internal memory could be considered your MP3 player.

The N8 showcases a marked improvement on the Symbian front and has the hardware to compete with the very best.
