BBC Player for iPad offered a huge boost to Apple’s tablet when it arrived with a beautifully designed and functioning app in February 2011, and Android owners also received some love from Auntie, with a similarly slicked-up app.

The iPlayer is available on more devices than ever, from Virgin TiVo to most web-connected TVs and consoles. Soon you;ll be able to watch Dr Who on everything short of your toaster, and viewing and listening figures continue to smash records.

As well as improving the speed and stability of the iPlayer, and increase the amount of HD shows available, the Beeb has also integrated a host of new social networking features, as well as links to other terrestrial TV catch-up services. With iPlayer set to go global in the near future, the sky's the limit.
