Nikon has refreshed its entry-level digital SLR camera, bringing us the D3100, a 14.2-megapixel beast that combines the company’s high-end build quality with performance that punches well above its price.

More than just another my-first-DSLR, the D3100 boasts 1080p video recording at 24fps and a 3.7-inch 230k dot LCD display that makes video and photo playback a joy.

Offering a range of simple setups for the mass market everyman, the D3100 comes with an 18-55mm kit lens and is compatible with Nikon’s full range of Nikon F mount lenses. 

A lightweight 505g, the D3100 is exceptionally quick, with an 11-point autofocus system and the ability to shoot at up to three frames per second. Ultimately, the D3100 is a dream DSLR for newcomers to the genre.
